Forever Autumn by Lake Of Tears
Lake Of Tears
„Forever Autumn“
Gothic, Dark Rock. CD, Reissue 2022 (1999)
In 1999, LoT (Lake Of Tears) from Sweden released their most melancholic album to date. Doom, or gothic metal, is predominantly softened by dark rock. This album sparked controversy. For some, it wasn't metal enough, while for others, it was pleasant dark rock. Overall, however, the album was very well received.
What struck me immediately: this album works even in the brighter seasons; despite all the melancholy, it contains positive vibes. To put it bluntly, “Forever Autumn” is, in my opinion, Lake Of Tears’ most beautiful album. Henriette Schaack’s cello playing, both overall and in “So Fell Autumn Rain,” “Forever Autumn,” and “To Blossom Blue,” deserves special praise. Overall, I find the opener, “So Fell Autumn Rain,” pleasantly effortless, even downright calming. The quiet beginning of the subtly harder “Hold On Tight” is also well-done, and I particularly like the bass here. What else can I say about the ballad “Forever Autumn”? It, too, is playful and effortless. The bass here, too, convinces me, just as it does in “Pagans Wish,” which is more reminiscent of the rock-oriented LoT albums. A good contrast. Did I mention positive vibes? The instrumental “Otherwheres,” piano, rain, thunder. Then the rain disappears, birds chirp, happy children in the background. Did I mention the bass? I find it again in "The Homecoming." "Come Night I Raign" offers another rocking contrast. The rocking continues in "Demon You / Lily Anne." A highlight? Every song here is a highlight. "To Blossom Blue" is again very relaxed and is a successful closer.
Before the conclusion, let’s first look at the credits for this magnificent work.
Daniel Brennare – Vocals, Guitar, Lyrics
Mikael Larsson – Bass
Johan Oudhuis – Drums

A special album where every song is well thought out, creates atmosphere, and is a highlight in its own right. I'd recommend "Forever Autumn," "Demon You / Lily Anne," and "To Blossom Blue."
