„No Hay Mañana“
EP. Techno, Dancefloor, bit of Dark Wave. 2022

Hector Oaks, a Spanish DJ, teamed up with Coco Paloma, a Berlin-based techno artist who was 18 at the time, in 2021. Both love electronic music and released this EP together in 2022.

What?! Techno??? Dancefloor??? Think outside the box, fellow prog heads! There's more to the planet than just prog rock. And I usually say no to techno too, but I detect (or perhaps I want to detect?) a hint of dark wave, and there's a lot of singing (all lyrics by C. Paloma). It was almost solely the voice of Coco Paloma, then an 18-year-old Berliner, that persuaded me to order the EP directly from Spain. The technical quality of the vinyl pressing is impeccable, in any case.

"Intro" begins without hard beats, with very softly spoken lyrics. A highlight for me. "No Hay Mañana – Club Mix" delivers hard techno beats and a surprisingly good vibe. Great vocals. The same goes for "Danger For You" and "Chasing Heights" on side two. If only more techno and club music sounded like this EP. Very spacey. Side two also features "Player Three," which I consider dark wave, another highlight.

Technically, this EP is flawlessly pressed and significantly louder. The bass is very rich and dynamic. Many a big-budget production could learn a thing or two from this. Aside from the technical aspects, I really like the way Coco sings the lyrics. It sounds cool, and the lyrics aren't just an afterthought. If you like techno or club music with a slight touch of darkwave, this is for you.
