Void by Coma Rossi
The band Coma Rossi came to me by chance when I was listening to prog. We're dealing with post-rock here, i.e. rock music mixed with different stylistic devices. That's why I'm naturally into post-rock. The combo, founded in India by Gaurav Govilkar, first attracted attention in 2018 with their debut album "Coma Rossi" with prog-inspired music. The rest are Gaurav Govilkar and Diane Galen on drums.
Let's get to the music. Post-rock on Void is rather static in terms of the music, which creates an atmospheric basic structure for me. There area few prog elements, but it's not supposed to be prog. The music is professional and well thought out. However, the singing takes some getting used to because of Gaurav's accent. And yet it fits the music. It still took me a few rounds on the CD player.
My conclusion is positive. A feeling of restlessness, triggered by things, both tangible and intangible, that lie in the past. We keep leaving solid ground and keep trying to keep the new ground stable. As soon as we have managed that, we have to move on. That can lead to emptiness and that is the feeling it is about, at least that is how I interpret it. If you are looking for atmospheric sound, you will find it here. I would play “Waves of Time”, the monumental “This Red Sky”, the longest track at 08:51, and “In Circles”.
I have one more request. Support small bands by going to concerts. CD and vinyl nerds, buy the albums.
