Breymer’s album “When I Get Through” will be released on October 18, 2024.

Who is Breymer? The best thing to do is listen to this CD! Breymer, born Sarah Walk, is non-binary. The self-designation non-binary* just means that a person does not see themselves as - or not only - a man or a woman. Dey (in English They/Them) has become established as a pronoun in Germany. Dey replaces He/She. And that's why I use Dey (They/Them).

Breymer decided to have her breasts removed (Mastectomy) and this album deals with this journey up to the final operation. The 11 songs deal with this openly, honestly and courageously.

Breymer's singing voice sounds clean and harmonious. The music is singer/songwriter pop, with indie, folk and electronic elements. The lyrics are thoughtful and describe the transformation openly. The path to understanding yourself, developing your own idea of yourself from this and actually following this path to the end deserves respect. And since I'm in the middle of the conclusion again, I'll leave out individual explanations about the songs. Just as dey had to find their way to their own identity in our binary world, the interested listener has to actively listen to the songs. Nevertheless, there are of course still the highlights.
So why does a prog-head review indie pop? Because it's well made. It's emotionally autobiographical. It's not fiction, but rather addresses the daily burden of minorities in our society. My hope is that Breymer's album, through its openness, will help us to recognize that we are all just human. And that some people will think about how colorful our world could be.

There are two songs that I don't really like. Nevertheless, the album as a whole is exciting and good to listen to, especially in terms of the subject matter. If I could wish for something, I would have preferred smooth transitions between the songs rather than pauses. Conclusion? Buy it and listen to it. Think about it and listen to it again.
