Anesthetize
Double CD, DVD. Live 2008.
Progressive Rock.

Two years after the concert in Tilburg in 2008, “Anesthetize”, a double CD with the concert + video DVD, was finally released. Here the entire album “Fear of a Blank Planet” is presented live, once just the music and once the entire concert visually on DVD.

Anesthethize Live. Porcupine Tree. DVD

Musically, the DVD recording is a success. It is a compilation of two concerts in Tilburg. Visually, the camera jumps back and forth between the musicians quite quickly. There is less to see of the visual performances in the background. I would have liked a longer long shot. I think a DVD should give the poor souls who couldn't be there an adequate overview of the evening and that doesn't quite work visually.

Anesthethize Live. Porcupine Tree. CD 1

CD 1 contains the entire Fear Of A Blank Planet (FOABP). The song “Anesthetize” is not only the heart of the album on FOABP, it shows its muscles even more impressively live. CD 1 is rounded off with “Prodigal” from the album “In Absentia”.

Anesthethize Live. Porcupine Tree. CD 2

CD 2 contains another 11 songs, including diamonds like “Drown with Me”, “Wedding Nails” and “Strip the Soul”. Again, high musical quality, as always with PT.

Anesthethize Live. Porcupine Tree. Backcover

As always, the double CD would have been enough for me, but I would have preferred vinyl even more. I gave the DVD to a friend. Musically, everything is top notch. Visually, I would have liked something different. If you are looking for a musical heavyweight, you will find it here.

The design of this double CD/DVD is appealing and a good example of why CDs are worth collecting. Not to mention the sound quality.
