The Judas Table by Antimatter
Antimatter
„The Judas Table“
Prog/Dark Rock. Limited CD Digibook, 2015.
In 2015 Antimatters released with "The Judas Table," their sixth album. Since their fourth album "Leaving Eden," they have consisted solely of Mick Moss and guest musicians. "The Judas Table" was lauded highly by critics at the time, and I also consider it one of the best albums of 2015. "The saddest band in the world" once again delivered a dark firework display of melancholic atmosphere. A violin or acoustic guitar is a must. Atmospheric melancholy, that's something Mick Moss has mastered.
The limited edition CD digibook includes a second CD with commentary of the album. Interesting to me, though; if you don't need that, the standard version is better and cheaper for you (though it doesn't have the digibook format).
For me personally, it's always difficult to name highlights on Antimatter. All the songs are far too good for that. Mick Moss's strength is always finding the best musical vehicle for the desired mood. However, "Black Eyed Man," "Killer," "Little Piggy," and "The Judas Table" are my top picks from the album's 10 songs.
The sound of the CD is actually very good, as always with Antimatter. It's nothing new that Mick Moss has a beautiful singing voice. However, anyone who doesn't like darker, melancholy songs should steer clear. For everyone else, I can wholeheartedly recommend picking this up.
