In 2010, ten years after recording their debut album "Saviour", Antimatter released their first compilation album, "Alternative Matter". The songs are taken from their first two dark/art rock albums, "Saviour" and "Lights Out," as well as their subsequent dark rock albums "Planetary Confinement" and "Leaving Eden." The tracks are live versions, demos, or alternative versions, and therefore not just another, often boring "best of" compilation.

CD A contains eleven songs. The production quality is, as always with Antimatter and Mick Moss, very high. Some of the songs were written by former co-founder Duncan Patterson, who left Antimatter in 2005 after "Planetary Confinement". Aside from the remixes, which aren't always great, I really like the alternative versions.

The second CD also features eleven well-produced songs. I particularly like the acoustic versions on both CDs.

I often dislike compilations. They're usually just the same songs, demos are rarely better than the originals, and remixes are seldom truly innovative. But here, alongside the not always successful remixes, we hear live versions and demos that didn't make it onto the respective albums in this form. I especially like the acoustic versions. There's always something new to discover on this compilation, and I recommend it not just to die-hard fans.
