The White Witch by Frayle
Frayle
The White Witch.
White/Black Vinyl EP. 45 Upm. 2018.
Lay Bare Records is, regardless of Frayle, highly recommended.
The band Frayle , founded in Cleveland in 2017 by Gwyn Strang and Sean Bilovecky, plays dark doom and post-rock. It flows beautifully through guitars and slow drums. Gwyn delivers the sometimes breathy, sometimes dark and sometimes demanding vocals. Bright and clear. Mystical. Frayle is also a visual band, both come from the design sector. Their first EP was released in 2018 and is a real eye-catcher. The 4 tracks are played at 45 rpm.
As so often, I stumbled upon the duo Frayle by chance. Doom and post-rock, a bit of blackgazing. Dark, lay-low, with interesting vocals. So here is the debut EP album The White Witch.
Song 1, "Let the Darkness in" is a dark, broad range of sounds. Are the vocals more threatening or resigned? In any case, they fit the mood perfectly. A good start. "The White Witch" has a bit more of everything, especially more power. Still very dark, but less depressive. We're already leaving side 1 behind us.
Side 2 begins with a cover song. "Wanderung Star" by Portishead. But less whiny, without sweetness. Well done. Song 4, "Things that make us Bleed" is very dark. What keeps you alive?
My two highlights are "The White Witch" and "Things that make us Bleed". The other two songs are also good. The first album makes an impression and leaves you wanting more. The EP itself is thick, runs smoothly, but is a bit crackly.
