Ghost Story
Psychedelic, Progressive Rock. CD 2004

In 2004, Phideaux released a much more prog-like album with a lightness that, on the surface, could be mistaken for pop. I admit that Ghost Story had to be around for a while before I really got a hearing for it. This type of prog rock is, like every Phideaux album, one of my absolute favorites. As always, Phideaux creates his own mix of glam, pop, psychedelic, folk, 80s vibes, rock and prog. Anyone who gets into this album will get beautiful sounding ghost stories. The sound of the first three songs seems a bit overdriven to me, the instruments and vocals blend together like mush. From then on, the songs sound clearer and clearer and develop their narrative potential.

Besonders herausheben möchte ich aus den 9 Liedern „Everynight“, psychedelische Leichtigkeit. „Beyond The Shadow Of Doubt“, der Prog-Rock Song des Albums und mit 07:45 ordentlich lang. Ein echtes Highlight. „Ghostforrest“ mit interessanten Rhythmus.

Und dann ist da noch „Universally“. Für mich geht hier ein Mensch und seine Asche bleibt übrig. Diese wird von den Zurückgebliebenen im Garten verstreut und geht über in den Boden, die Bäume und Pflanzen. Und wenn es regnet, ist da „the awarenes of you“, zusammen mit den Erinnerungen an den Verstorbenen. Aus Sternenstaub sind wir entstanden, um am Ende wieder zu Sternenstaub zu werden.

Überhaupt sind alle Songs sehr gut und ich höre immer die ganze CD. Phideaux und die Band machen eben gute Musik. Und das ist auch schon mein Fazit.
