„My Own Private Hell“
Progressive Metal. EP, 31. October 2025

It's quite strange that I, as someone from Hamburg, had never heard of this project before. AtmOsfear, founded in 1996, plays progressive metal. All the better, then, that the band contacted me and sent me their digital EP. 15 years after their last release, their new material will be released on October 31, 2025, with a new lineup. Normally, I only review CDs or vinyl, unless I'm truly convinced by the music.

This is metal music that will really hit you ears, and it strikingly resembles Dream Theater. This is partly due to the vocals of Oliver Wulff, who has a certain James-LaBrie-esque quality. Okay, is this now AtmOsfear or Dream Theater? Dream Theater is more playful, progressive, and intellectual. AtmOsfear is more direct, also progressive, but without lengthy, overly technical passages. I do like technical passages, but not all the time, and that's where AtmOsfear comes in perfectly: clean, progressive, atmospheric metal that doesn't get on your nerves—quite the opposite. The five songs, ranging from 3:40 to just under 8 minutes, make you want to hear more from them in the future. None of the tracks—"Shelter," "Driven by Hatred," "Victims of Circumstances," "Moment of Silence," or "My Own Private Hell"—have any parts that would make me want to skip them. This EP is best enjoyed from start to finish.
