It's strange that this project remained hidden from me as a Hamburg resident. AtmOsfear, founded in 1996, celebrate progressive metal. All the better that the band contacted me and provided me with their digital EP. Fifteen years after their last album, their new release will be released on October 31, 2025, with a new lineup. Normally, I only review CDs or vinyl, unless I'm really impressed by the material. 

Here you get metal that's strikingly reminiscent of Dream Theater. That's also due to singer Oliver Wulff, who has a LaBrie-esque quality. Okay, is this AtmOsfear or Dream Theater? Dream Theater is more playful, progressive, and complex. AtmOsfear is much more direct, also progressive, but without extended, intricate passages. I like intricate music too, but not all the time, and that's where AtmOsfear comes in: streamlined, progressive, atmospheric metal that doesn't get on your nerves—quite the opposite. The five songs, ranging from 3:40 to almost 8:00 minutes in length, leave you wanting more. Neither "Shelter," "Driven by Hatred," "Victims Of Circumstances," "Moment Of Silence," nor "My Own Private Hell" have any passages that throw me off. This EP demands to be listened in its entirety.

Progressive metal from Hamburg. Atmospheric. Direct. Skillfully performed and executed. Highlight? The entire EP.
