In 1975, Pink Floyd created their next masterpiece, following "The Dark Side of the Moon" (1973). I could actually end this "review" here, as even professors have dissected this album piece by piece. Admittedly, there are reviews that claim WYWH is boring or even carelessly produced without any real enthusiasm. Everyone is free to find music boring, but a lackluster production? No. Few Pink Floyd albums sound alike; anyone expecting "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" or "Dark Side" is bound to be disappointed.

Whether I consider "WYWH" brilliant or boring has nothing to do with the production quality. The music, the atmosphere created, the instruments used, the ideas, the vocals, and the effects are all of the highest quality. This can and should be acknowledged regardless of personal taste.

Initially, the remaster sounded underwhelming; only after I thoroughly cleaned the (new!) record the crackling noises disappear. Since then, I have absolutely no complaints. Beautiful soundstage, well-defined instrument placement, clear sound. Perhaps it could be a touch more defined? No, from my perspective, there's nothing to criticize.

A simple conclusion for me. I love and look forward to every single song. Whether it's prog or not (for me, it clearly has prog elements) is for everyone to decide. For me, it's another milestone from Pink Floyd. I, for example, can't connect with the Syd Barrett era, and the period after Roger Waters isn't for me either. I simply miss his magnificent lyrics. A very clear recommendation.

What do I really think:

Milestone. Masterpiece. Never gets old for me, and I'm always happy to listen to such great music. Whether it's "Have A Cigar" or "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," I can recommend this entire album. David Gilmour's guitar playing and the analog synthesizers (MiniMoog, VCS 3) are particularly outstanding. A must-have not only for every prog collection.
