Wolfmother
„Rock’n’Roll Baby“
EP, Green Swamp Vinyl, limited Edition. Vintage Hard Rock, Stoner Rock. 2026 (2019)

What has become of Wolfmother and the mastermind behind the iconic riff of "Joker & The Thief"? Essentially, the core of Wolfmother (founded in Sydney in 2000) now consists only of its founder, singer, and guitarist, Andrew Stockdale. In 2019, they released the EP "Rock'n'Roll Baby" as a download, which was primarily produced by Andrew himself. With seven songs and a runtime of approximately 23 minutes, it's quite short. Each song is under four minutes long. This album is scheduled for a vinyl release on April 24, 2026, which is what I'm reviewing here.

LP (EP) Album "Rock'n'Roll Baby" by Wolfmother. LP A

"Rock'n'Roll Baby" offers nothing new musically. No evolution. Anyone hoping for that will be disappointed. Instead, you get riffs and a sound straight out of the '70s. The influences are Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Golden Earring, and so on. It's neither new nor innovative, but it is refreshingly simple, refreshingly vintage. The two best songs sound very similar: "Higher" and "Rock'n'Roll Survivor." But these songs perfectly reflect what Wolfmother is all about. "Kick Ass" and "Special Lady" are other decent tracks. Sonically, there's nothing to complain about on this Green Swamp-colored EP.

What do I actually think?

Well-crafted vintage hard rock, partly due to Andrew Stockdale's brighter vocals. There's no evolution in the sound, nor should one be expected. Anyone who enjoys vintage hard rock will be well served by Wolfmother. Furthermore, the album has a technically clean sound.

Andrew Stockdale – Vocals, Guitar
Cameron Lockwood – Drums
Hamish Rosser – Drums
Ian Peres – Bass, Keyboard
Lucius Borich – Backing Vocals
