Ghost Story
Psychedelic, Progressive Rock. CD 2004
In 2004, Phideaux released a much more prog-like album with a lightness that, on the surface, could be mistaken for pop. I admit that Ghost Story had to be around for a while before I really got a hearing for it. This type of prog rock is, like every Phideaux album, one of my absolute favorites. As always, Phideaux creates his own mix of glam, pop, psychedelic, folk, 80s vibes, rock and prog. Anyone who gets into this album will get beautiful sounding ghost stories. The sound of the first three songs seems a bit overdriven to me, the instruments and vocals blend together like mush. From then on, the songs sound clearer and clearer and develop their narrative potential.
Of the 9 songs, I would particularly like to highlight "Everynight", psychedelic lightness. "Beyond The Shadow Of Doubt", the prog rock song on the album and at 07:45 quite long. A real highlight. "Ghostforrest" with an interesting rhythm. And "Universally", a beautiful ballad. All the songs are very good and I always listen to the whole CD. Phideaux and the band make good music. And that's my conclusion.
