Jaywalker
Dream Pop, Dark/Goth Wave. 2023
Once again I came across music by chance and immediately got the last two CDs. Here is the second album "Jaywalker" from 2023. Jancy Buffington hired Andrea Volpato as co-producer and session musician for her project MØAA. All of the music was writen by Jancy. The music is designed around Jancy's warm, dreamy voice. The music is a mixture of shoegaze, dark/goth wave and dream pop. "Jaywalker" is melancholic, more danceable, wavy dream pop. Music to brighten up the gray autumn season a bit.
“Jaywalker” takes me back to the 80s. Typical drum computer sound. This sound runs through the whole album without sounding old-fashioned, quite the opposite. “Such A Saint” lives from Jancy's dreamy voice and the good interplay between text, voice and music. Shoegaze dream pop. “Like Me” has nice, pleasant basslines. The lyrics are intelligent, and not just here. “Se 24th St” is a nice, dark ending for Jaywalker.
The music is structured in a relatively similar way. And that's exactly what makes this long player interesting. Reduced, calm dream pop with wavy gothic elements. I can listen to it casually or lean back, relax and concentrate on the music by headphones. Then Jaywalker reveals its interesting mood. I always like to listen to this album in its entirety. Jancy's pleasant voice contributes to this, as does the goth-wave sound and the mood that results from it.
