To Bring You My Love by PJ Harvey

LP To Bring You My Love von PJ Harvey, Frontcover

PJ Harvey released her third album in 1995. Although less aggressive than her previous records, To Bring You My Love is musically more complex. Here Polly Jean offers us the full spectrum of love, never cheesy, sometimes aggressive, sometimes suffering and pleading. And PJ has it. That was 29 years ago. This album by the alternative rock icon has lost none of its power. It is about loss(s), the dark side of love. Harvey also uses biblical motifs here, but is not religious himself.
The list of collaborators: John Parish, Mick Harvey, Joe Gore, Jean-Marc Butty, Sonia Slany, Jules Singleton, Siam Bell, Jocelyn Pook and Joe Silworth. Produced by PJ Harvey, Flood and John Parish.

LP To Bring You My Love von PJ Harvey, LP A

In the first song, PJ makes it clear that she would do anything for love. Even with the devil, cursing heaven. "To bring you my Love" is slightly distorted, the basic tone is aggressive. Vocally, Polly Jean is once again great. Highlight number 1! "C'mon Billy" brings folky ecstasy, with a versatile voice. Highlight 2! "Down by the Water" comes in a synth dress. Here, a woman drowns her daughter in the river. Scary. For me, this song is the heart of this album. Highlight number 3. But the intensity is not only felt here, actually each song deserves its own review. 10 exceptionally good songs, I'll limit myself to the 3 mentioned.

LP To Bring You My Love von PJ Harvey, Backcover

Cursing, yearning, begging, euphoric, malicious, tormenting and yet not quite so dark, To Bring You My Love conveys many facets of love. Blues, folk, synth, alternative. Always perfectly intoned by Polly's variable voice. Alongside Let England Shake, the flagship of her career. Be sure to listen!
The record reviewed is flawless, sounds clean and sits flat on the turntable . 180 grams, reissue from 2020.
