„Arriving Somewhere…“
Progressive Rock, Live. 2 CD + BluRay Set 2022 (2006).

With "Arriving Somewhere…", Porcupine Tree released their first DVD in 2006. The first DVD contains the live recording of the Deadwing tour in Chicago. The audio is available in stereo and 5.1 surround sound. The second disc includes live performances on the German television program Rockpalast, a promotional video for "Lazarus", the live films that served as backgrounds for three songs, Gavin Harrison's "Cymbal Song", and a photo gallery with over 100 pictures. The two CDs contain the songs from the Chicago show. To get the Blu-ray show out of the way right now (it's not part of this review): The sound and picture quality is excellent.

The 2022 version contains one Blu-ray and two CDs instead of two DVDs.

The songs range from the albums "Deadwing," "In Absentia," "Stupid Dream," "Lightbulb Sun," and "Recordings." I've already discussed the quality of the individual songs in various reviews. The fact is, the live performances are also of the highest caliber. And this is reflected in the two CDs and the Blu-ray.

You can see the tracklist on the back cover.

Stewen Wilson – Vocals, Guitar, Keyboards
Richard Barbieri – Keyboards, Synthesizer
Colin Edwin – Bass
Gavin Harrison – Drums, Percussion
John Wesley – Guitar, (Back) Vocals

What do I really think:

"Steven Wilson has long demonstrated a talent for blending vintage influences with contemporary sounds, without ever forgetting the power of a catchy chorus... capable of uplifting melodies and heavenly harmonies." I couldn't have described it better myself.

The fusion of different styles, the band's sheer joy in playing, their musicianship – all of this shines through perfectly on this release. Porcupine Tree simply makes magnificent music. "Arriving Somewhere…" is a must-have for any music collection.
